# Watermarks are not applied

## Symptom

**Add Watermarks to Photos** (**Pro**) is on, but the gallery still shows the original images.

## Cause

Watermarked copies do not exist yet for the settings in force. That happens when:

- Generation is still running.
- **Autogenerate** was off when the images were uploaded.
- The watermark settings changed after the copies were generated.
- The image format is not supported: SVG, AVIF and BMP are skipped.
- The GD or the Fileinfo PHP extension is missing on the server.

## Fix

Open [Visual Portfolio → Settings → Watermarks](https://www.visualportfolio.com/docs/settings/watermarks/) and read the status line, which counts the copies made so far, for example **12 of 340 images already watermarked**.

1. Click **Bulk Generate** to make the missing copies.
2. Turn **Autogenerate** on so new uploads are watermarked as they arrive.
3. If an extension is missing, the tab names it. Ask your host to install GD and Fileinfo.
