# Users cannot access Projects

## Symptom

Editors or Portfolio Managers open Projects or Saved Layouts and see **Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page**.

## Cause

The capabilities were not synced after an update or after a change to the role. The plugin adds them when it is activated.

Saved Layouts are a separate case: Editors cannot edit them by design.

## Fix

1. Deactivate the plugin and activate it again. It re-adds the capabilities to the roles.
2. To give someone access to Saved Layouts, use the **Portfolio Manager** role. See [Roles and capabilities](https://www.visualportfolio.com/docs/projects/roles-and-capabilities/).
